Surrey municipal election

October 17, 2008

In the municipal election scheduled for November 15, 2008, Bad Freeway endorses Murray Weisenberger for Mayor and Bernadette Keenan for Council.

Murray Weisenberger’s many years of hard work on the political scene in Surrey, as a Green Party organizer, and tireless campaigner against issues like Gateway and the environmental destruction of Campbell Heights, make him just the person we need to unseat incumbent Dianne Watts.

Bernadette Keenan is fresh off her independent campaign for Surrey North in the recent federal election, and having successfully raised awareness about the threats of the South Fraser Freeway plan at this most critical time, is ready to take these issues straight to the council table.

Update: Bad Freeway extends endorsements to council candidates Rina Gill (SCC), Stephanie Ryan (SCC), Jim McMurtry (SCC), and Gary Robinson (independent). These are the only other candidates who, to the best of our knowledge, have spoken out against the South Fraser Freeway in this campaign. We note that while individual Surrey Civic Coalition candidates Gill, Ryan, and McMurtry have done so, the SCC as a whole has not. A survey regarding these issues was launched late in the campaign, and four candidates (McMurtry, Robinson, Keenan, Weisenberger) took the time to respond.

For the simultaneous election in neighbouring Delta, Bad Freeway suggests a look at Delta Now’s recommendations.
