Town hall meeting recap

October 24, 2008

The town hall meeting on Wednesday was a rousing good time. The hall was packed to standing room only and was attended by politicians from all levels of government, including recently elected MPs Sukh Dhaliwal and Dona Cadman. Panelists detailed how the South Fraser Perimeter Road is simply not needed, and far from a “done deal” – in part due to the shakiness of such grandiose P3 projects in the current economic climate.

Even with an open microphone, there was no support at the forum for Gateway – people were united in their opposition. The mood was further amplified with word that citizens in Mission had mobilized at public hearings against the controversial Silverdale development there. Read Stephen Rees’ more detailed account of the town hall meeting here and Eric Doherty’s presentation here.

Don’t let them pave us into the stone age

October 17, 2008

Gordon Campbell, Kevin Falcon and their BC Liberals plan to pave over the “best place on earth” with the Gateway megaproject, but it’s not a done deal, and YOU can help! The Bridgeview Community Action Group was formed in 2008, to help stop Gateway and support better transportation solutions. The group includes concerned citizens from all over Surrey and nearby areas. Meetings are held Mondays at 7 PM at Bridgeview Hall in Surrey. For more information, please contact us.
